Crash Type   Bicyclist rode out of residential driveway
Countermeasure   Create a buffer or barrier

Many education programs aimed at preventing children from riding out their own driveways into the path of a vehicle suggest that parents erect some kind of barrier across the driveway (even their own car). This same principle could be applied to places where bicyclists frequently ride off a sidewalk into traffic: the sidewalk could be given a grass buffer or planting strip to act as a barrier or obstacle for a child on a bicycle.
