Crash Type   Motorist drove out of alley or driveway
Countermeasure   Stop bars and signs

A motorist pulling out of a driveway or alley may not realize that they should stop before they cross the sidewalk and enter the roadway. A simple Stop Bar and Stop Sign, placed prior to the crosswalk, in accordance with the MUTCD (Section 3B.16 for Stop bars and 2B.07 for Stop Signs)) may help convey that message. Alternatively, a Yield sign may suffice (Section 2B.08).

The city of Irvine has a useful description of how and when Stop signs are used.
