Crash Type   Motorist drove out - stop sign, flashing red  --   4.8%

In this crash type, the motorist pulls out of a street through a stop sign or flashing red signal and fails to yield to a bicyclist traveling through the intersection. The overwhelming majority of collisions occur in the first half of the roadway and 57 percent involve a bicyclist who is riding the wrong way against traffic (22 percent on the sidewalk and 35 percent on the roadway).

This crash type is similar to the others where the motorist fails to yield to a bicyclist passing through the intersection. The issues and solutions are quite similar.

Countermeasures
-- Decrease wrong way riding
-- Decrease sidewalk riding
-- Encourage motorists to look both ways
